Our trip to the Montreal Holocaust Memorial Museum in Montreal was quite thought-provoking as the experience left me with a mix of emotions such as sorrow, empathy and fear. From the moment I stepped inside, chills went down my spine.
Our guide, Camille, walked us over to the corridors of history, explaining every single detail of the past. The somber ambiance and dim lighting were themselves unraveling the horrific stories of the Holocaust. One of the most moving parts of the exhibit was the collection of survivors’ remnants. The dirt and stains on the striped pajamas were screaming the sufferings of those who went through such dehumanizing chambers. “The heart of Auschwitz” shattered my heart into pieces.
My visit to the museum threw me into the pit of deep thoughts. Even in those horrific circumstances, survivors showed the entire world a powerful testament of human spirit and resilience. There is a saying that “hope is the bridge between today and tomorrow”, and I think these lines synchronize beautifully with their today and our tomorrow.
I believe that every act of dehumanization, every loss of a human soul and every misery need to be disclosed and informed to the world. So that, we can make this world a better place to live for everyone who simply wants to live their lives and who are just trying to exist on this planet.
